Why the Front Door Matters Most

In Feng Shui, the front door is called the "mouth of chi" — it's where energy enters your home. A blocked or unwelcoming entryway restricts the flow of good energy to every room.

Front Door Feng Shui Checklist

  • Always open fully: A door that sticks or doesn't open all the way blocks energy
  • Clean both sides: Inside the entryway AND outside the door, keep it spotless
  • Good lighting: A well-lit entryway welcomes chi
  • Inviting mat: A clean, attractive doormat (replace when worn)
  • Working doorbell: Sound activates energy
  • No clutter: Shoes, coats, and bags should be organized, not piled

What to Avoid at Your Front Door

  • Dead or dying plants (remove immediately)
  • Broken doorbell, peeling paint, or squeaky hinges
  • A mirror directly facing the door (bounces chi back out)
  • Sharp corners or edges pointing at the door
  • A staircase directly facing the door (energy rushes up or down)
Your front door is the first impression — for people AND for energy. If it doesn't feel welcoming to you, it's not welcoming to chi either.
